You will find tons of Rune Fragments in Elden Ring while exploring the open world, but their use is not explicitly explained. Considering how many items are available for crafting in the game, it makes sense. Ruin Fragments are basically the raw materials you use to craft various materials. This guide explains how to use Rune Fragments in Elden Ring and where to find them.

What To Use Rune Fragments For

They can be used as a throwable item to distract enemies or lure enemies away from a group, but they’re best used as a resource to craft other items.

Players can use Rune Fragments to craft Scriptstone, Rainbow Stone, and Glow Stone.

Script Stone allows users to see more messages from other players, which include helpful tips and tricks. You should also take their statements with a grain of salt since they often contain jokes and false information.

In a dark area, Rainbow Stones emit colorful light that makes it easy to track your path. Similar is glowstone, although it also requires Dewkissed Herba to make and only emits a natural light color.

Players should grab Rune Fragments as they explore the world to make sure they always have the items they need. Rainbow Stone is a great way to check if you can survive a fall. If a Rainbow Stone breaks when it hits the ground from a high elevation, that means you will also die. If it stays intact, you can make the jump without issue. Seeing more messages from other players with Scriptstone can be helpful in some scenarios.

The Difference Between Golden Runes and Rune Fragment

Golden Rune vs Rune Fragment
Golden Rune vs Rune Fragment

There seems to be a rune in everything in Elden Ring, and runes are used for everything. Partially true, but not fully. Runes in Elden Ring serve both as currency and as experience points. When you pick up a Golden Rune and add it to your inventory, it doesn’t automatically count towards your total runes available: It stays in your inventory.

This item is actually a consumable that gives you runes with a click of the “use” button. When you use up your Golden Runes, you get a bunch of runes all at once, which is good for leveling up fast. Gold Runes remain in your possession even after you die, almost like a backup wallet of runes you have not yet “spent.”

Then the myth buster, Rune Fragments aren’t runes at all. Their other name is Ruin Fragment.  Rocks like these can be found around Elden Ring , and is used to craft stone-related items, such as Glowstones and Rainbow Stones.
