Melee weapons and tools can be carried by the Mantis, such as hatchet, sword and whips. The reason why we equip tools is because mantises has higher damage than a survivor meaning you can deal much more damage per hit.

How to Hatch Mantis Eggs in ARK
Obtain the egg
When you have a male and female specimen, enable mating and stay in render distance. Eventually, they will lay an egg and put the mating on hold.
The breeding interval for a mantis is 18 to 48 hours.
During incubation, the egg should maintain a constant temperature. Use these items:
- Air Conditioners x 4
- Egg Incubator
You will have to incubate an egg at a different temperature and for a different period of time. Using an air conditioner or an egg incubator is the best option here. With their help, you can regulate to the correct temperature.
A temperature of 35 °C to 38 °C is ideal for this. It takes about three hours for the little mantis baby to hatch, according to the official 1x settings. You will need to manually feed it and it takes about 5.5 hours of your attention.
When it reaches juvenile status, it can feed on its own from troughs. In total, it takes 2 days and 6.5 hours for the dinosaur to fully mature. Feed it spoiled meat! Fills them up more than raw meat. Spoiled meat is only consumable by bugs, not dinosaurs.
